Venereology


The Venereology is the branch of medicine that is concerned with the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of sexually transmitted diseases (STD). Contrary to what one might think, STD are increasing and, in addition to representing an important public health problem, often cause psychological and physical discomfort to the point that significantly affect patients’ lives. Our attention is directed not only against the most common and well known STD (syphilis, gonorrhea, etc. ..) but also to the Herpes Simplex, HIV, hepatitis viruses, human papilloma virus (HPV).

The Venereology is a growing field for the discovery of new pathogens, the development of new diagnostic and therapeutic advances.
The management of venereal diseases is not only the medical care in the strict sense, but also the psychological correlates them and thus must be entrusted to an expert who, in addition to diagnosis and therapy, are able to provide information to promote sexual behavior which do not display or to reduce the risk of infection.
